PT Sumber Indokemjaya is a spin-off from CV Sumber Djaja, which was established in 1970 as the representative office of Commercial Supplies Ltd. (Bangkok, Thailand). In 1973, CV Sumber Djaja became an independent company.
PT Sumber Indokemjaya began its business in Surfactants industry by representing Marchon Ltd. (UK), one among the biggest surfactants manufacturers at the time, which later became part of Albright & Wilson (UK). The company then added Flavor and Fragrances business by representing Bush Boake Allen Ltd (UK) and Water Treatment Chemicals by representing Houseman Ltd (UK).
The company kept on growing by adding Food Ingredients, PVC Stabilizers and Metal Finishing Chemicals into its business portfolio. By 1978, the company has grown to 10 employees.
From 1980 to 1986, PT Sumber Indokemjaya was involved actively in representing INTRACO Pte Ltd., Singapore.
To capitalize on the development of Indonesia, in 1988, PT Sumber Indokemjaya was established with the head office in Jakarta, the capital city. The Surabaya representative office was established in 1979 to handle business in East Java, followed by the Medan, North Sumatra office in 1995. Today, each office is equipped with warehouse, trucks and other vehicles to support the company's operations.
In 1993, PT Sumber Indokemjaya invested some of its profits in the palm plantation business. Currently, the company has 2,000 HA of plantations in North Sumatra and 8,000 HA in Jambi Province. Both palms in both estates are in the mature stage with excellent yields.
In 2004, the enterprise diversified its business by adding Pertamina Gas Station in Sunter, North Jakarta.
The company's turnover reach its peak in 1996 at approximately US$ 13 million (ex-stock sales). When the economic crisis hit Asia in 1997-1998, the company, like so many others, suffered as its turnover dropped sverely. Having gained the knowledge and wisdom in surviving the crisis, PT Sumber Indokemjaya is today prepared to cooperate with the existing and future/potential partners in pursuing its business interests.
By 2010, the company's turnover has reached US$ 25 million (ex-stock sales) with more than 90 employees on its payroll.

PT Sumber Indokemjaya works hand-in-hand with its principals and customers to build confidence and grow the business together for mutual benefits in the long term.
Some of the company's relationship with its principals and customers have lasted for more than a quarter of a century.
In 1988, PT Sumber Indokemjaya set up a joint venture with Albright & Wilson and other local partners to build a surfactants manufacturing plant in Gresik, East Java. The cooperation survives the acquisition of Albright & Wilson by Rhodia Co. Ltd (France) in 2000.
Business Objective
More than forty years of experience has set the company to be an established supplier of speciality chemicals.
However, as most of its principals have been acquired by other multinational companies (Houseman was acquired by Lynnaise-des-Eaux, Albright & Wilson by Rhodia and Bush Boake Allen by International Flavors and Fragrances), later on, established their own distribution infrastructure in Indonesia. PT Sumber Indokemjaya is eager to find new partners to complement the existing ones.
PT Sumber Indokemjaya is also interested in exploring manufacturing joint-venture in its field of expertise.
